The German Soil Science Society e. V. ( DBG ) is a recognized non-profit association of scientific soil scientists and other people interested in soil science .

Structure and tasks

It was founded in Berlin in 1926 as a section of the International Soil Science Society . After the Second World War, it was re-established in Wiesbaden in 1949 . Today it has about 2000 members. It has been based in Göttingen since 2012 . The annual meetings of the DBG are the most important platform for the exchange of pedological knowledge in the German-speaking area and take place every two years.

Board members for 2020 and 2021 are:

  • the President Karl-Heinz Feger
  • the Vice Presidents Wulf Amelung, Ellen Kandeler and Daniela Sauer
  • the managing director Christian Ahl.

The Extended Board also includes former President Georg Guggenberger , Jens Utermann as representative of the Federal Soil Association and the chairmen of the commissions.

The company's own journal is called the Journal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science (previously: Journal for Plant Nutrition and Soil Science ) together with the German Society for Plant Nutrition . There are also notifications from the German Soil Science Society , in which the excursion guides and conference volumes for the annual conferences appear. The green leaves were also to produce short-term releases on Meetings and developments in soil science institutions. The DBG reports are also available as online publications .

The association awards the Emil Ramann Medal as well as the Fritz Scheffer Prize and the Ulrich Babel Prize as awards .

The DBG belongs to the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS).
