The International Union of Soil Sciences ( IUSS , German  International Association of Soil Sciences ) is a scientific society for soil science founded on May 19, 1924 as the International Society of Soil Science (ISSS) . The renaming from ISSS to IUSS took place in 1998. The association is a member of the International Council for Science (ICSU). The IUSS regularly (now every four years) organizes the World Congress of Soil Science (WCSS) at changing locations . The 20th WCSS took place in Jeju-si ( South Korea ) in 2014 , the 2018 congress was inRio de Janeiro . The next congresses are planned for 2022 in Glasgow and 2026 in Nanjing .

The association has almost 90 national and regional societies around the world, representing a total of around 55,000 soil science scientists. In German-speaking countries, the IUSS includes the German Soil Science Society (DBG), the Austrian Soil Science Society (ÖBG) and the Soil Science Society of Switzerland (BGS).

The organ of publication is the IUSS Bulletin , which appears twice a year . In addition, the IUSS Alerts are sent out monthly .
