The Austrian Soil Science Society  ( ÖBG ) is a scientific association for soil science in Austria .

Structure and tasks

The association is a registered association, to which individuals and institutions belong, who deepen their knowledge of soil science and aims to " promote all branches of soil research in Austria".

On the initiative of professors from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, as well as directors of the federal agricultural and chemical institutes , the ÖBG was founded in the spring of 1954 and its headquarters are in Vienna. The secretariat of the ÖGG is at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (at the Institute for Soil Research).

The tasks of the ÖBG include the processing of soil and geological issues, the organization of scientific events (e.g. lectures, excursions, meetings, conferences, congresses), publication activities, implementation and supervision of research projects as well as cooperation with the International Union of Soil Sciences  (IUSS) and the European Confederation of Soil Science Societies  (ECSSS).
In addition to the organization of general meetings, annual conferences, workshops and symposia, the publication of the print medium is releases the ÖBG a core function of ÖBG.
In addition, in the tradition of scientific public relations work, the society, together with the German Soil Science Society , selects a soil of the year .

Recognized as a scientific forum, the Austrian Soil Science Society has been entrusted several times by offices, ministries, etc. with the development of guidelines for soil science surveys in Austria.
