Othmar Nestroy

Othmar Nestroy (born November 7, 1933 in Kapfenberg ) is an Austrian soil scientist .

Life

Othmar or Otmar Nestroy was born as the great-great-nephew of the Viennese poet Johann Nepomuk Nestroy and began his school education in Vienna (elementary school and grammar school up to Matura). Then Nestroy took an agricultural degree at the Vienna University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences and obtained the title of graduate engineer. He then became an assistant at the Institute for Geology and Soil Science at the same university and wrote his dissertation on crop rotation experiments in Styria .

After his assistant years, Nestroy worked at the Institute for Soil Mapping and Soil Management. Ten years later he moved to the Institute for Physical Geography at the University of Vienna , where he completed his habilitation in physical geography at the University of Salzburg with a special focus on soil geography . He worked at the Institute for Geography in Vienna for 16 years. In 1986 he moved back to Graz to the Institute for Applied Geosciences at the Technical University of Graz , where he retired in 1999.

Othmar Nestroy has two sons. Markus Nestroy is a cameraman and Clemens Nestroy is a photographer.

Publications

Nestroy presented around 350 publications in the fields of soil geography and ecology as well as agricultural geography and ecology. In addition, he dealt with Johann Nepomuk Nestroy in some works.

As head of the Soil Systematics working group of the Austrian Soil Science Society , he was in charge of the publication of the Austrian Soil Systematics (ÖBS) from 2000 and its revised version from 2011.
