Hartmut Schiedermair

Hartmut Schiedermair (born January 16, 1936 in Bonn , August 23, 2020 there ) was a German lawyer and emeritus full university professor for public law , international law and legal philosophy . Schiedermair has been honorary president of the German University Association since 2004 .

Life

Schiedermair was born on January 16, 1936 in Bonn as the son of Gerhard Schiedermair (also a well-known lawyer) and his wife Imogen Schiedermair, b. Baum, born in Bonn. His grandfather was the musicologist Ludwig Schiedermair from Regensburg . After graduating from high school at the Aloisius College in Bad Godesberg, Schiedermair studied philosophy , history and art history at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main from 1955 to 1956 . From 1956 to 1960 he studied law and philosophy there. Between the first (1960) and second legal state examination (1965), Schiedermair was doing his legal clerkship at the higher regional court district of Frankfurt am Main , with interruptions to write a dissertation .

Schiedermair has been married to Inge Schiedermair, a graduate economist, since 1961 and has three children. Schiedermair is the father of the pianist Valentin Schiedermair and the Leipzig law professor Stephanie Schiedermair .

In 1968 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. From 1966 to 1974 he was a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg . In 1974 he received his habilitation from Hermann Mosler in the subjects of public law, international law and legal philosophy at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . From 1974 to 1976 he was seconded to the Federal Constitutional Court as a government director in the Ministry of Justice of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .

In the period from 1976 to 1983 was Schiedermair University professor of heads of state , administrative and international law at the University of Saarland in Saarbrücken . In 1983 he was appointed university professor for public law, international law and legal philosophy at the University of Cologne . In 2001 he retired. Since 2002 he has been a lecturer at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in the media law advanced training course set up by the Mainz Media Institute .

The Medical Faculty of the University of Rostock awarded Schiedermair an honorary doctorate in 2011. Since 1991 he has been a member of the Academy of Non-Profit Science in Erfurt .

Other offices

Hartmut Schiedermair was President of the German University Association (DHV) from 1980 to 2004, his successor being Bernhard Kempen .
