Valentin Schiedermair (born October 28, 1963 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German pianist who lives in London .

education

Valentin Schiedermair grew up in a family with a strong love for romantic music . His father is the law professor Hartmut Schiedermair , his mother Inge Schiedermair.

At the age of five, Valentin Schiedermair took piano lessons from Elisabeth Bleile in Heidelberg . At the age of 16 he won first prize at the Leimen piano competition and played for the first time in front of a public audience and on the radio . Since then he has built a very large repertoire and given concerts around the world.

At the age of 17 he began studying music with Professor Paul Dan at the Heidelberg- Mannheim University of Music and had lessons with Chopin Prize winner Halina Czerny-Stefanska and her husband Ludwig Stefanski.

At the age of 20 he won another prize in Barcelona and was honored with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD ) and the Fulbright Commission in New York , where he was inspired by an interesting pianistic environment. Schiedermair took lessons from Gary Graffman , a Vladimir Horowitz pupil, with whom he worked on important parts of the classical and romantic repertoire.

Schiedermair continued his studies at the University in Vienna with Hans Kann and later with Peter Wallfish at the Royal College of Music in London. Masterclasses with the virtuosos Shura Cherkassky , Bruno Leonardo Gelber , Miecyslaw Horoszowski and many others completed his education. Since then, Schiedermair has been touring the world regularly and making recordings.

job

Schiedermair has been an internationally active pianist since the 1990s. He has given numerous master classes in Europe and Asia . His spectrum ranges from the secret of the pianistic timbres to the sense of rhythm to the diverse aspects of musical tradition ( Frédéric Chopin , Robert Schumann , Ludwig van Beethoven , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Franz Liszt and others).

Schiedermair is a frequent guest at international festivals and tours . His concert recordings and studio recordings fascinate with virtuosity and romantic sensuality.

With his open manner, Schiedermair deals intensively with the historical and biographical background of the scores he interprets.

He himself puts it in the following way: “My dream is to carry on the legacy of the great pianists and composers and to deepen this legacy in terms of sound and interpretation. My main goal is to liven up piano recitals as a cultural event. Too many pianists these days bore audiences with their supposedly excellent technique without finding an independent interpretive approach. As a German pianist you have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the thoughts of German-speaking composers. In particular, I deal in detail with the cultural, historical and literary backgrounds of the scores. To convey this to the audience in short introductions is an integral part of my concerts. "

Valentin Schiedermair's most recent tours in Asia took him to fifteen cities in China , Taiwan and Singapore . As in the previous year, the last concert in Taipei only ended after five encores and the University of Shenzhen awarded him a guest professorship for his services to the musical exchange between Germany and China. In 2012 he played on the national holiday on October 3rd in the plenary hall of the German Bundestag in Bonn.
