Bruno Leonardo Gelber (born March 19, 1941 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine pianist .

Life

Bruno Leonardo Gelber was born into a musical family, his father was a violist at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, his mother a pianist. Gelber began playing the piano at the age of three and by the age of five he had already mastered entire sonatas and concerts.

From 1946 he studied together with Enrique Barenboim, Martha Argerich and Julio F. Largacha with Vincenzo Scaramuzza in Buenos Aires . In 1948, the outbreak of polio forced him to take a year-long break. His condition soon improved, so that in 1949 he was able to give his first concert on Argentine radio. During his further training he performed in many concert halls in his country. In 1956 Gelber played under the direction of Lorin Maazel at the Teatro Colón. At the age of 20 he received a grant from the French government and continued his training with Marguerite Long in Paris . After that, his concert appearances made him known throughout Europe.

Gelber has worked with many well-known orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic , the London Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra . His repertoire includes the great classical and romantic piano works. He is among the best Brahms - Artists counted in the world. Gelber has also appeared on German television. In 1971 he produced a piano program for Saarland Radio under the direction of Peter Rocholl with works by Scarlatti, Schubert and Chopin, which was broadcast several times in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the following years.

In 1989 and 1999 Gelber received the Konex Prize in Argentina . He was also awarded the Grand Prix de L'Académie Charles Cros and the Prix ​​de l'Académie de Paris .
