Hans Wilhelm Reiners (born July 7, 1955 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and Lord Mayor of the city of Mönchengladbach since 2014 .

Life and work

Reiners attended the Catholic elementary school in Alsstrasse from 1962 to 1966 and from 1966 the mathematical and natural science high school in Mönchengladbach, which he graduated in 1974 with the certificate of general university entrance qualification. After two years of military service in the armed forces , he studied sport, geography and educational science at RWTH Aachen University for the secondary level II teaching post and passed the first state examination in 1983 . During his studies he was a trainee at the Braunschweiger Zeitung , after which he worked there from 1983 to 1987 as a sports editor . From 1987 to 1998 Reiners was an editor at the Rheinische Post in Mönchengladbach and since 1991 deputy head of the Mönchengladbach editorial department. From 1998 to 2014 he worked as a full-time managing director of the CDU council group Mönchengladbach.

As Lord Mayor of the city of Mönchengladbach, Reiners is chairman of the city council, head of the city ​​administration with approx. 3,100 employees and the highest representative of the city. In addition, Reiners u. a. as a member of the presidium of the German Association of Cities , as a board member of the Association of Cities in North Rhine-Westphalia, as a member of the board of the Rheinischer Sparkassen- und Giroverband and as a representative of the city of Mönchengladbach in the supervisory bodies of the companies in which the city is involved. Political party

From 2009 to 2014 Reiners was a member of the Mönchengladbach city council (direct election in the Eicken-Süd / Kaiser-Friedrich-Halle district), spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group in the planning and construction committee, member of the culture committee, supervisory board of the Mönchengladbach development company (EWMG ) and the marketing company Mönchengladbach (MGMG). From 2010 to 2014 he was a member of the Düsseldorf Regional Council .

In January 2014, the general assembly of the CDU Mönchengladbach nominated Reiners as a candidate for the election of the Lord Mayor of the city of Mönchengladbach, in which on June 15, 2014, in the runoff election with 50.44% of the votes against his predecessor Norbert Bude ( SPD , 49, 56%) prevailed.

Reiners is a board member of the CDU district association Mönchengladbach, board member of the education department of the local political association of North Rhine-Westphalia and a delegate at the CDU state party conference in North Rhine-Westphalia.
