Hermann Jakob Doetsch (* 1831 in Kesselheim near Koblenz ; † March 7, 1895 in Bonn ) was Lord Mayor of Bonn from 1875 to 1891 .

Hermann Jakob Doetsch (* 1831 Kesselheim near Koblenz; † March 7th, 1895 Bonn) decided to pursue a career in local government after studying law. From 1865 he was mayor of Gerresheim, which was not incorporated into Düsseldorf until 1909. In 1869 he moved to the post of the first paid aldermen of the city of Bonn. In 1871 he was elected mayor of Mönchengladbach. In 1875 he was elected Lord Mayor of Bonn. During his tenure in 1887 Bonn received the official status of an independent city. In addition, the “Hähnchen” restaurant opened on Münsterplatz in 1876, a popular meeting place for citizens, students, professors and garrison soldiers. In the same year the Soennecken-Verlag settled in Bonn. In 1877 the new main post office in the Palais Fürstenberg was also opened on Münsterplatz. In 1879, the new synagogue built between 1877 and 1878 on the banks of the Rhine, not far from today's Kennedy Rhine Bridge, was inaugurated according to plans by the architect Hermann Eduard Maertens. On June 7th, 1880 the railway line Bonn - Duisdorf - Rheinbach - Euskirchen, the Voreifelbahn, was opened, which today is used by the S-Bahn line 23 after it was threatened with closure in the 1960s / 1970s. During the tenure of Mayor Doetsch in the 1890s, Poppelsdorf, Endenich, Kessenich and Dottendorf, among others, were incorporated into the independent university town of Bonn. At the same time, the fortifications were removed except for the old customs and only the star gate remained as a relic of the various city gates. A new station building was erected from 1883 to 1885, today's main station. The station concourse should be reminiscent of a city gate. The building site for the new train station was at the lowest point in the city, an old, silted up arm of the Rhine. In midsummer, the climate around the train station was hot and humid, which is why people spoke of the “Bonner Loch”. Later namesake for the plaza and staircase, which was structurally located there in front of the main train station from the 1970s to 2010s. On November 1, 1889, a new newspaper appeared for the first time, the "General-Anzeiger". The publisher of the Bonner Zeitung, Hermann Neusser, dealt with the changes caused by the Kulturkampf. The publisher also set up a printing company, which he combined with the newspaper under the umbrella of a public limited company. The “General-Anzeiger” was conceived as a daily advertising paper, highlighted local and regional reporting and was initially distributed free of charge. According to its own admission, the new paper abstained from "any political, social or religious partisanship" and thus distinguished itself from the Catholic-oriented "Deutsche Reichszeitung", which also appeared in Bonn. From 1891 horse-drawn tram routes were set up for inner-city traffic, the forerunners of the later electric trams. After suffering a heart attack during a meeting in 1891, OB Doetsch resigned from office that same year. He died four years later and was buried in Bonn's old cemetery. Since 1904 the street between today's Berliner Freiheit and Josefstrasse has been named Doetschstrasse in his memory.
