Norbert Bude

Norbert Bude (* 14. September 1959 in Mönchengladbach - Giesenkirchen ) is a German politician of the SPD . He was Lord Mayor of Mönchengladbach from 2004 to 2014 .

Life and work

Bude attended elementary school in Mönchengladbach-Giesenkirchen and in 1980 received the general university entrance qualification at the Odenkirchen grammar school . After fifteen months of military service in the armed forces , he studied at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for public administration and graduated in 1985 with a degree in administrative management . He then worked for the Deutsche Bundespost (later the Federal Agency for Post and Telecommunications ) until he became managing director of the Mönchengladbach SPD council group in 1995 .

Norbert Bude is the father of three children.

Political party

In 1983 Bude joined the SPD and rose to become deputy chairman of the SPD Mönchengladbach and in 1989 a member of the city ​​council . He became parliamentary leader of the SPD in the city council and was primarily responsible for the areas of sport, the environment and administration. He was elected full-time mayor in the North Rhine-Westphalian municipal elections in 2004 in the runoff election on October 10, 2004. He was confirmed in office on August 30, 2009 with 49.27% ​​of the votes cast.

In addition, Norbert Bude was district chairman of the former Odenkirchen district from 1994 to 1999 and chairman of the committee for leisure, sports and swimming pools from 1999 to 2004 .

As Lord Mayor, he was chairman of the city council, head of the city ​​administration with around 3,100 employees and first representative of the city of Mönchengladbach. On June 15, 2014, Bude was defeated with 49.56 percent compared to his challenger Hans Wilhelm Reiners (CDU) with 50.44 percent in the runoff election.
