Peter Stockhausen

Peter Stockhausen (born October 26, 1898 in Bonn ; †  August 2, 1961 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and Lord Mayor of Bonn from 1948 to 1951 .

The son of a carter completed a commercial apprenticeship after primary school . On the side, however, he continued to study and passed his Abitur as an external student in 1917 . After his return from the First World War , he studied theology, philosophy and law and political science. He finished his studies in 1923 with a doctorate as Dr. rer. pole.

Stockhausen continued to support the students. In 1923 he took over the management of the student union at the University of Bonn . The new building on Lennéstraße was built in 1932 under his significant influence. He also ran the student welfare association and was the founder of the foreign student club. At the end of 1936, he was dismissed as managing director because of his anti-Nazi sentiments. From 1937 he worked in business as the director of the Soennecken company.

After the end of the war in Bonn, the military government appointed Stockhausen in April 1945 to the so-called "Twelve Council" and then also to the first city council. In the first election in October 1946, the Bonn citizens elected him as city councilor and the CDU parliamentary group as their chairman.

On October 26, 1948, the Bonn city council elected Stockhausen Mayor. Significant events in the history of the city and post-war Germany took place during his term of office: the Parliamentary Council met in Bonn, followed in 1949 by the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany and the election of the city as the federal capital with a seat of parliament and government. At the same time, the reconstruction after the destruction of the war took place: in the same year the inauguration of the new Rhine bridge, the opening of the new theater and the university clinics on the Venusberg as well as the inauguration of the Viktoriabrücke took place.

In 1949 and 1950 the city council re-elected Stockhausen Mayor. In 1951 he renounced his lineup. Until 1956 he was a member of the city council.

In 1955 Stockhausen took over the management of the Bonn district craftsmen.

His grave is in the Endeich cemetery.
