St. Michael (Weißenbronn)
St. Michael is a church named after the Archangel Michael of the Evangelical-Lutheran parish Weißenbronn in the deanery Windsbach .
history
The church was first mentioned by name on October 20, 1337 in a brief from Pope Benedict XII. , with which she was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The choir tower dates from this time. A bell in this tower dates back to 1295, making it one of the oldest bells in the area.
Under Pastor Hans Keim (from 1501) the buttress arch of the choir was raised and the ossuary moved behind the church. A silver paten and a silver goblet with a foot made of copper were purchased and carved pictures for the altar were made, presumably by the same master from Nördlingen who had made the carved pictures on the Peter and Paul altar in Heilsbronn. A third tower floor was built in 1711, and in 1716 the church was extensively remodeled in the Baroque style (extension, elevation and new vaulting of the hall, built-in galleries and window enlargement, fittings ), in which bricks and stones from the dilapidated St. Stephen's Church in Wollersdorf were used.
The glass painting in the choir, which shows the resurrection of Jesus Christ, dates from 1891. In 1899 the windows were enlarged again. Major church renovations took place in 1865, 1911 and most recently from 1970 to 1972.
