Marion Poppen

Marion Poppen (born December 15, 1932 in Bremen ) is a politician and sports functionary from Bremen ( SPD ) and she was a member of the Bremen citizenship .

Poppen was a housewife and a committed sports politician, especially in athletics .

Poppen is a member of the SPD in Bremen. She was chairman of the SPD regional working group on sport from the 1970s to the 1990s.

From 1975 to 1991 she was a member of the Bremen citizenship and was active in various deputations and committees of the citizenship, including the sports deputation. She was sports policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group.

In the citizenry she played a decisive role in the enforcement of a sports promotion law in the youth education law and in the law on equality between women and men.

Poppen joined the Bremen Sports Youth Board in 1966. From 1973 to the beginning of 1999 she represented the interests of the Bremen Athletics Association in Bremen and in the state council of the German Athletics Association as 1st chairwoman. During her tenure, the Bremen Association successfully hosted two German championships in 1983 and 1995, as well as various North German championships. She also played a key role in ensuring that the Bremen Marathon was continued from 1987 to 1991. She was committed to the development of women's sports.

Honors

  • Poppen was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 1999.
  • She is honorary chairwoman of the Bremen Athletics Association .
  • In 1996 she was awarded the Hanns-Braun-Wanderpreis of the German Athletics Association for her services in the leadership of German athletics.
