history

In 1273 the place was first mentioned under the name "Surheim". The defining word of the place name is the Middle High German adjective "sûr" (= sour, wet) and refers to an unfavorable soil location, which was settled late after the good locations had already been occupied.

In 1275 the Heilsbronn monastery bought goods in Sauernheim from Count Konrad von Oettingen . In the period that followed, the monastery acquired a total of 11 properties.

In the 16-point report of the Oberamt Windsbach from 1608 14 teams are recorded for Sauernheim: 1 yard and 1 estate belonged to the caste office Windsbach , 7 yards and 3 estates belonged to the Merkendorf administration office , 1 estate from the imperial city of Nuremberg , 1 estate to the municipal bailiff's office in Eschenbach of the Teutonic Order . There was also a communal shepherd's house. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach caste and city bailiff's office in Windsbach . The Merkendorf administrator's office exercised community law and the shepherd's crook.

In the Thirty Years War only one of the eleven Heilsbronn farms burned down, but eight of the eleven farm owners were killed, the rest of them fled, so that the place was described as deserted in 1632/34.

In the Oberamtsbeschreibung of the Principality of Ansbach by Johann Georg Vetter from 1732, the place is described as follows:

"Weiler, 3 farms to Windsbach, of which Birkhof is next to a pond in the Dellenbach 3 acres, a wood called the Hopfengraben, next to an imaginary pond, 100 acres and a wood in the Brünst 6 acres from Anna Pommerin a widow in Eschenbach for." 500 guilders. According to the purchase letter, it was bought in 1538 and divided into two courtyards. The third, the Schankstätt, was rebuilt in 1710. Then there are 11 farms to Merkendorf, one to Nuremberg and a German order and a shepherd's house, therefore 17 houses, the Evangelicals to Windsbach and the Catholics to Eschenbach. "

Since the 18th century the people of Sauernheim mined and sold stones from the Hopfengraben as a sideline. The Windsbach town hall was also built from such stones in 1749. In the official description of the Lichtenau Nursing Office from 1748, 16 subject families are given for the place, one of which was subordinate to the Immeldorf Main Office and the other landlords.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 21 properties and a community shepherd's house in Sauernheim with the hop mill. The high court continued to exercise the caste and city bailiff's office in Windsbach , while the administration of Merkendorf held the village and community rulership. The landlords were the Principality of Ansbach (19 properties; Kastenamt Windsbach: 2 half yards , 1 estate, 1 tavern, 1 mill, 1 empty house ; Merkendorf administration office: 4 yards, 4 half yards, 1 quarter yard, 1 estate, 2 small farms, 1 empty house), the State Office of Alms for the Imperial City of Nuremberg (1 good) and the Eschenbach City Bailiff of the Teutonic Order (1 good). From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the Justice and Chamber Office Windsbach .

In 1806 Sauernheim came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict , the Sauernheim tax district was formed in 1808 , to which Ballmannshof , Bölleinsmühle , Erlenmühle , Fischbach , Gotzendorf , Gotzenmühle , Hopfenmühle , Ismannsdorf , Reutern , Rückersdorf , Sallmannshof , Speckheim , Spiegelhof , Utzenmühle , Wattenbach and Wöltendorf belonged. The rural community Sauernheim was founded in 1810 and was congruent with the tax district Sauernheim. It was subject to the Heilsbronn Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and the Windsbach Rent Office in the financial administration . With the second community edict (1818) the rural community Sauernheim was split into

  • Rural community Fischbach with Rückersdorf;
  • Ismannsdorf rural community with Speckheim;
  • Rural community Reutern with Bölleinsmühle, Sallmannshof, Spiegelhof, Utzenmühle and Wöltendorf;
  • Rural community Sauernheim with hop mill;
  • Rural community Wattenbach with Ballmannshof, Erlenmühle, Gotzendorf and Gotzenmühle.

From 1862 to 1879 Sauernheim was administered by the Heilsbronn District Office , since 1880 by the Ansbach District Office (renamed the Ansbach District in 1938 ) and the Heilsbronn Rent Office (1920–1929: Heilsbronn Tax Office , from 1929: Ansbach Tax Office ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court Heilsbronn until 1879, 1880–1956 district court Heilsbronn , since 1956 district court Ansbach . The municipality had an area of 4.516 km². As part of the regional reform , the municipality of Sauernheim was incorporated into Windsbach on January 1, 1974.
