St. Bonifatius, Windsbach

St. Bonifatius is a Roman Catholic church named after St. Bonifatius in Windsbach (Deanery Herrieden of the Diocese of Eichstätt ).

Parish

The residents of the Roman Catholic denomination were originally cared for by St. Nikolaus (Mitteleschenbach) . In 1925 there were already 79 Catholics. This made it necessary to build a church. On April 20, 1927, a piece of land including a sawmill near the train station was purchased for 9,500 marks. The Wagner sawmill was converted into an emergency church in 1928 according to plans by the Nuremberg architect Theo Ehrenfriedt. On November 11, 1928, the emergency church was consecrated by the Eichstätter Domkapitular Regnath. St. Bonifatius was a branch church of Mitteleschenbach. In 1935 a rectory was built. Since then, Windsbach has had its own clergyman.

After the Second World War, the number of Catholics rose sharply due to the influx of refugees. Therefore, on January 1, 1952, the previous pastoral care office was appointed curate , and on January 1, 1961, it was finally raised to the position of Expositur . In 1968 the emergency church was so dilapidated that a new church had to be considered. This was built in 1971/72 according to the plans of the Georgensgmünder architect Wolfgang Gsaenger and consecrated on June 25th 1972 by the Eichstätter Bishop Alois Brems . On March 30, 1975, St. Boniface was raised to a parish. Since September 1st, 1980 the Windsbacher pastor has also been responsible for St. Vitus (Veitsaurach) .

Church building

The modern church building has a square floor plan and is merged on the south side with the community center, which overlooks the square floor plan on the west side. The roof of the community center slopes down towards the south. The roof of the church building is divided into three parts: the middle part has a window facade in the south and slopes steeply towards the north, while the outer parts slope towards the south. The portal is on the south side. The church tower stands off to the east from the church building. Its roof slopes down towards the north.

The hall has a south pore. Since 1977 there has been a pipe organ with 7 registers from Mathis und Söhne ( Näfels / Switzerland). There are paintings of the Way of the Cross on the west and east sides of the hall . The altar area is in the northern part of the hall. A wooden statue of Jesus is attached to the wall to the left of the altar, further to the left a wooden statue of Boniface, to the right of the altar the tabernacle is attached to the wall, and further to the right is a wooden statue of the Madonna and Child. A wooden crucifix hangs from the ceiling. Benches are set up around the altar area and on the gallery.
