The Catholic side church to Our Lady in Herrieden probably stands on the foundations of a crypt initiated by Emperor Charlemagne between 768 and 814 .

Location

The church is considered the location of the first monastery of the holy abbot Deocar around 782. It was rebuilt in a modified form by the canon Thomas Flach. It was destroyed in the great city fire in 1490 and rebuilt by the same builder. In 1703 the roof turret was put on, in 1705 the carved baroque wooden ceiling, unique in Germany, was drawn in.

The sanctuary has a network-vaulted ceiling with four painted pictures in the vaulted spaces that Mary inclusion in the sky , the Ascension , the Resurrection of the Lord and the Coronation of the Virgin show. The stained glass windows in the apse put Mary at the center of the action. The Archangel Gabriel proclaims the good news to Mary and Mary visits her base Elisabeth .

The neo-Gothic winged altar from 1897/98 forms the center of what is popularly known as the Frauenkirche . It is dominated by a representation of the Holy Spirit as part of the overall theme of the front and back. The front shows in conversation Close up of Jesus on the cross , flanked by two angels with banners. The altar shrine glorifies the coronation of Mary by Christ and God the Father. The two left wings depict the birth and resurrection of Christ , the right wing depicts the adoration of the three wise men and the ascension of Christ. The tabernacle is surrounded on the left by Isaiah with the banner 7 "Ecce virgo concipiet et pariet filium" and on the right by Jeremias with the banner 31 "Virgo Israel revertere ad civitates tuas". The front of the cafeteria shows the sacrificial lamb from the Apocalypse in the middle , surrounded by the evangelist John with a verse from his revelation "Et visa est arca testamenti eius in templo eius" and David with a harp on the right.

Epistle : On the right side altar in the conversation narrow a view of the Risen One, flanked by Mary of Egypt and Margaret of Cortona . The main picture shows Mary of Magdala with an open book in her hands. This altar clearly shows the importance of repentance and penance in the event of salvation.

Altarpiece: Anna herself third

Gospel page: On the left side altar, Joseph can be seen in the cracks as the patron with bowl, pigeons and staff. He is surrounded by two psalmists, and in the shrine is the main picture of Anna herself, the third . At the front of the cafeteria there are representations and verses from the Old and New Testament.

Tondo: Sacrifice of Mary

The nave has a carved, early Baroque wooden ceiling from 1705 with ceiling paintings. It shows in a unique and original way baroque stucco ornaments as carving. It is rectangular, round with springs and has carved wreaths of leaves and fruit on egg bars as frames. Fields decorate shells, acanthus and Cherubköpfe and oil paintings. Four tondi represent the sacrifice of Mary, the Annunciation, the offering of Jesus in the temple and the visitation. According to the chronicle of the monastery from 1705, this wooden ceiling was completed at the zealous efforts of canon Michael Kirchbauer, the provisional agent of this chapel.
