The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority. This list reflects the update status from August 13, 2016 and contains 75 architectural monuments.
Windsbach old town ensemble
The ensemble includes the walled, small two-gate town complex from the 13th century, including the square and bridge in front of the river gate, on the Rezatfurt, which was previously occupied by the castle and church fortifications. The facility is closely related to the neighboring Wolframs-Eschenbach: A main street running from gate to gate is accompanied by a parallel side street. The fortification ring surrounds the former fortified church and the castle-like noble seat of the Counts of Oettingen and their feudal people, the Lords of Windsbach. While Wolframs-Eschenbach was shaped by the Teutonic Order, Windsbach came to the Nuremberg burgraves towards the end of the 13th century and was further formed as a margrave country town with a bailiff, dominated by the keep of the former castle, which became a landmark as a watch and city tower has been. As in Wolframs-Eschenbach, the main street between the upper gate and the former castle has a market-like, wide section with representative two-storey, gable-sided town houses, which are very effectively dominated by the baroque facade of the margravial upper office (Hauptstraße 13) built as the successor to the castle. The town houses stand on evenly wide and very deep parcels of land, they have extensive, agriculturally and commercially used rear buildings, which - this is particularly well preserved in Windsbach - have their access from the rear side street, where barns form the rear fronts. The side of the side streets facing the city wall is each occupied by loosely scattered rural properties or garden grounds.
The former fortified church can still be seen in a rectangular square that surrounds the church on all sides.
Despite numerous breakthroughs, the city wall is still up to approx. 3 m in height, the moat has been filled, with gardens and partly with loosely scattered residential buildings. Nevertheless, the moat area remains important as an effective urban edge zone of the old town.
Part of the ensemble is the space situation on the river front in front of the Lower Gate with the monumental ashlar bridge from the 18th century and its head buildings, onto which a dead straight access road from the 18th century leads. File number: E-5-71-226-1.
City fortifications
The city fortification comes from the 13th / 14th Century. The preserved parts of the curtain wall are made of ashlar and quarry stone masonry. It has numerous breakthroughs and flaws and is up to about three meters high. Two gates have been preserved. File number D-5-71-226-1.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The monument property - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the monument atlas or the entry in the Bavarian monument list. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
