The Poor Clare Monastery existed from 1926 to 2014. The last Poor Clares left the monastery in Paderborn , which had grown too large for their needs , and moved to Salzkotten , where they continued their religious life as the Poor Clare Convent . Following the example of Saints Clare and Francis of Assisi , the Poor Clares are dedicated to the prayer , work and service of the people who turn to them with their concerns.

From 1921 there were plans for a new establishment in Paderborn in the Poor Clare Monastery in Münster . The foundation stone of the monastery was laid on March 19, 1925. In 1926 the small chapel was inaugurated and there were seven retreats - and three outside sisters began living together in Paderborn. The house was not confiscated during the National Socialist era , but the sisters had to work from home for the Wehrmacht .

In 1945, after the end of the Second World War, Franciscans and Cellitinnen , whose monasteries had been bombed, were admitted to the Paderborn Poor Clare Monastery, as it had only suffered minor war damage. In the post-war period a soup kitchen was set up for the population. In 1949 the current monastery church and the sister choir were built. In 1951 the south wing was added and the gate area was redesigned; In the last construction phase, the cloister was roofed over in 1968 .

The community joined as a founding member of the Federation of German-speaking Poor Clares, established in 1963. In 1985 the church and the nurses' choir were renovated. The sisters also founded a Poor Clare monastery in Brno , which was inaugurated in 1997. In 1998 the last two outside nurses moved into the cloister , the outside nurses wing became the living area of ​​the Clementines, the students of the former Clemens Hofbauer College in Bad Driburg . In 2000 the novitiate wing was renovated and in 2011 the sisters celebrated the 85th anniversary of the Poor Clares in Paderborn . At that time, twelve sisters lived in the Poor Clare Monastery in Paderborn. They were accompanied spiritually and spiritually by the Paderborn Franciscans .

On October 10, 2014, the Paderborn Poor Clares moved into the mother house of the Franciscan Sisters in neighboring Salzkotten, where they have taken their own cloister and continue their contemplative life in community with the Franciscan Sisters. The Archdiocese of Paderborn , which owns the property, made the monastery available as accommodation for refugees in October 2015 . Since February 2016, a service has been held once a week in the church of the former Poor Clare monastery.
