Ensemble town center Weiltingen with castle area
The ensemble includes the historic town center with the castle area, the former castle mill and the market square, an area that can be defined by the late medieval fortifications, which are still preserved in remains and traces. The market in Weiltingen originated from a manor on the Wörnitz near Dinkelsbühl and although it was not granted market rights until 1554 , its beginnings should have been almost at the same time as the manor in the 13th century. After frequent changes of ownership, the manor belonged to the Württemberg ducal family from 1617 to 1810. The castle was demolished in 1814, but the dry moat, the feed trough with round tower foundations as well as the castle hill and the former tithe barns have been preserved. Today's appearance also expresses the close connection between the castle, the church, which is built directly on the castle moat and contains the princely crypt, and the market. The market square is a broad street market between the gate tower of the former fortification as the eastern boundary and the former castle area in the west towards the Wörnitz. Tapering towards the Schlossweg, it is lined uniformly by mostly two-story, plastered gabled houses from the 17th to 19th centuries. Century; some of them have curved finishes and thus correspond to the gate tower. On the eaves side of the market there is only the Gasthaus zur Post, at the confluence of the street leading from the south to the market square. The fountain from 1777 that stands today on the market square comes from the castle courtyard. To the north of the castle and market area, the former castle mill adjoins the Wörnitz, which is still connected to the castle area by remnants of the former fortifications. Traces of the fortifications can also be seen in the rectory garden of the rectory, which, as the former ducal Württemberg Oberamtshaus, is also a monument to the history of the market place, which also define the north corner of the historical place and thus the ensemble area. Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
