Wolfsau (colloquially: Wolfsāch ) is a district of the town of Windsbach in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia .

geography

The Rößigbächlein (later called Goldbach) rises near the hamlet , a left tributary of the Franconian Rezat . The Steinmauern forest area begins immediately to the south . Approx. 0.75 km to the northeast are the Krahenloh and Breiten corridors , about 1 km to the north the Schwalbleiten . A communal road leads to Leipersloh (2.2 km northeast) or the state road 2220 crossing to Hölzleinsmühle (1 km southeast).

history

Karl Dunz found a well-preserved Celtic hill about 200 meters northeast of Wolfsau. On the road to Hergersbach there are strange stones in the Wolfsauer fields. It is unclear whether they came from a meteorite or from waste from a Celtic forge.

The place was first mentioned in 1166/68 as "Wolfesouwe". The defining word of the place name is the animal wolf . So it is called a floodplain in which wolves could be seen regularly.

In the Salbuch of the Eichstättischen collegiate monastery St. Nikolaus zu Spalt from 1380 three subject families are registered for Wolfsau. In the Salbuch of 1517 only one subject family is given, in 1549 there are again two. In 1529 two subject families were subordinate to the main Hergersbach team in the imperial city of Nuremberg .

In the 16-point report of the Oberamt Windsbach from 1608, 4 teams were recorded for Wolfsau: 2 goods were subordinate to the Abenberg caste office in Eichstätt , and 2 courtyards to the imperial city of Nuremberg . There was also a communal shepherd's house. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach caste and city bailiff's office in Windsbach . The place was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and only repaired again in 1670 by the Austrian exile Jakob Reingruber.

According to the Vetter'schen Oberamtsbeschreibung from 1732 there were again 4 properties in Wolfsau, all of which had different landlords : the rich alms of the imperial city of Nuremberg, the St. Klara monastery office , the caste office in Spalt and the collegiate monastery in Spalt. In the official description of the Lichtenau Nursing Department from 1748, 4 subject families are also specified for the place, two of which were subordinate to the Nursing Department and two foreign masters.

Towards the end of the 18th century, Wolfsau formed a community with the Hölzleinsmühle . There were three properties and a community shepherd's house in Wolfsau. The high court and the village and community rulership was exercised by the caste and municipal bailiff's office in Windsbach. The landlords were the caste office Spalt (1 yard) and the imperial city of Nuremberg (Landesalmosenamt: 1 yard; St. Klara-Klosteramt: 1 yard). In addition to the households, there was the shepherd's house, which was a communal building. There were 4 subject families at that time. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the Justice and Chamber Office Windsbach .

As part of the community edict, Wolfsau was assigned to the Mitteleschenbach tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Mitteleschenbach, founded in 1810 . With the second community edict (1818) Wolfsau was re-incorporated into the newly formed rural community Retzendorf . A little later there was a plan to form a separate community with Hölzleinsmühle, but this was not approved. On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Retzendorf and its districts were incorporated into the town of Windsbach as part of the regional reform .
