Erlenmühle (colloquially: Erlmíl ) is a district of the market Lichtenau in the district of Ansbach , Middle Franconia .

geography

The wasteland lies on the Zandtbach , a right tributary of the Franconian Rezat . The Erlenmühle is located on the district road AN 14 , which leads to Unterrottmannsdorf (1.8 km to the west) or to Wattenbach (1.3 km to the northeast).

history

The place was first mentioned in 1398 as "Erlmuln". It was named after the Erlbach, which is now known as the Zandtbach. According to the name, there must have been an alder forest there at that time . At times it was also referred to as the lower mill, in contrast to the upper mill, which is actually called Gotzenmühle . In 1493 a mixed form "lower Erlmüll" is also documented. The mill was rebuilt several times, in the 16th century and in 1772. The latter was in operation as a flour mill until 1954.

Towards the end of the 18th century, the Erlenmühle belonged to Gotzendorf . She had the city bailiff of Eschenbach of the Teutonic Order as landlord. When the house numbers were assigned at the beginning of the 19th century, the property was given No. 3 for the town of Gotzendorf.

As part of the community edict, Erlenmühle was assigned to the Sauernheim tax district, which was formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Sauernheim, founded in 1810 . With the second community edict (1818) Erlenmühle was re-incorporated into the newly formed rural community Wattenbach . This was incorporated into the municipality of Lichtenau on January 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform .
