Large (patrician)
The Groß were a respected patrician family in the imperial city of Nuremberg , first mentioned in 1274. The Groß were, with short interruptions, from 1319 to 1558, represented in the Inner Council and, according to the dance statute, belonged to the twenty old generations eligible for advice.
history
The origin of the Groß is probably due to the ministry from the Nuremberg area. They had business connections with the Stromerschen Handelsgesellschaft, but also with the Mendel and Stark, as well as in the Bohemian copper mining around Kuttenberg and in the cattle trade. They exercised the office of Reichsschultheissen several times , for a long time administered the customs and the Reichsmünzstätte in Nuremberg, as well as the court of Heroldsberg .
Konrad Groß, the most famous representative of the sex, was the richest Nuremberg of his time and, among other things, the founder of the Heilig-Geist-Spital . His descendants became increasingly indebted and had to sell their properties. Sebastian Groß, the last of the family, died completely penniless as a benefactor in the Heilig Geist Spital in 1589 .
