The Himmelthron Monastery is a former Cistercian monastery in what is now the Nuremberg district of Großgründlach in Bavaria in the diocese of Bamberg .

history

The monastery consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary was founded by Countess Kunigunde von Orlamünde , widow of Count Otto VII. Von Orlamünde . The legend of the white woman is associated with the founder of the monastery, who also played a role in the history of the Himmelkron monastery . The Himmelthron Monastery was dissolved in 1525 during the Reformation . The property passed into the administration of the Landalmosenamt, which sold it to the city of Nuremberg in 1543. Later the plant came into private ownership. In 1723, Großgründlach Castle was built on the old basis.
