history

Parishes and parishes

Original parish of Fürth

The place name Fürth comes from a ford over Rednitz . In the Frankish times there was a royal court in Fürth , the church of which was consecrated to St. Martin. This early church served the population in the Königsland in Rednitzgrund. In 1474, the Nuremberg Church of St. Lorenz zum Heiligen Grab was a branch of the Martinskirche in Rednitzgrund. With the establishment of the Bamberg diocese in 1007 by Heinrich II , Fürth was donated to the Bamberg Cathedral Chapter. In the 11th / 12th In the 19th century, the Markflecken Fürth received a second church with St. Michael , which served the Bamberg population. St. Michael in Fürth is the only building in the city that survived the Thirty Years' War .

Original parish of Poppenreuth

St. Peter and Paul
Poppenreuth

The parish of Poppenreuth has existed for more than 1000 years and was the mother parish of St. Sebald in Nuremberg until 1513 .

Imperial City of Nuremberg and the Reformation

In 1474 the city council of Nuremberg received the right to propose its parish churches, which at that time were still dependent on Fürth and Poppenreuth. St. Lorenz and St. Sebald became provosts in 1477 and were therefore no longer subordinate to the spiritual jurisdiction of the diocesan bishop. In 1513 Nuremberg succeeded in acquiring the patronage rights for the parishes of St. Sebald and St. Lorenz by paying an annual pension of 100 guilders each from the Bishop of Bamberg , reversing the dependency relationship with the parishes of Poppenreuth and Fürth. The payments were made until the secularization of the principality in 1802. At the time of the Reformation Nuremberg had 40,000–50,000 inhabitants, Fürth around 1,000. On June 5, 1524, the new Protestant church order was practiced in Nuremberg St. Sebald and St. Lorenz and the Reformation was introduced. When the Reformation was implemented in Fürth and Poppenreuth, there are no archival documents. However, it can be assumed that the Nuremberg provosts introduced the Reformation there by virtue of their ecclesiastical authority.

Margrave of Brandenburg Ansbach-Kulmbach

Georg the Pious ruled both parts of the country jointly with his brother Kasimir von Brandenburg-Kulmbach . Casimir had rejected the Reformation. Only after his death on September 21, 1527, the Reformation could be introduced in the Margrave in 1528. In the territory of the Franconian Hohenzollern, the Reformation was introduced in the following places: 1528 Cadolzburg, Dambach, Großhabersdorf, Langenzenn, Oberasbach, Roßtal, Vach and Zirndorf, 1529 Veitsbronn. The Nuremberg-Brandenburg church order came into force on Sunday Reminiscere 1533.

Dean's office

The Deanery Fürth has been running the previous Deanery Zirndorf since June 13, 1883.
