Oberfürberg (colloquially: "Féʳberi") is a district of the independent city of Fürth in Middle Franconia .
geography
The village is about 3.5 kilometers west of the historic center of Fürth. In the west and south there is the extensive forest area of the Fürth city forest , to the east the Main-Danube Canal runs . The neighboring districts are Zirndorf , Weiherhof , Unterfürberg , Burgfarrnbach and Alte Veste .
A community connection / district road FÜ 19 runs via Wachendorf to Cadolzburg to state road 2409 (6.2 km west) or to the south-west bypass and beyond to Fürth to federal road 8 (2.5 km north-east). Another communal road runs to Weiherhof (0.9 km southwest).
history
In 1258 Oberfürberg was sold by Ludwig von Uffenheim to the burgraves of Nuremberg . In 1303 the place was called "Obern Fuerenberg". It can be assumed that the place name as well as the old name for the Fürth city forest "Förberich" (attested until 1732) are derived from the Old High German word "foraha" (= pine ). The “-ich” in Förberich is perhaps a collective ending that has been reduced to “berg” or reinterpreted in Fürberg; but the “i” can also be an insert vowel (cf. dialect pronunciation), so that berich is to be interpreted as “-berg” (= hill). The spellings "Obern Furchenbech" (1314) and "Obernfurenberg" (1414) have also survived.
In 1303 and 1314 Burgrave Konrad the Pious ceded the bailiwick of the Hofmark Fürth with Ober- and Unterfürberg to the cathedral chapter in Bamberg. In 1349 Ober- and Unterfürberg were separated from their mother church Sankt Martin and parish to Burgfarrnbach.
Towards the end of the 18th century there were 5 properties in Oberfürberg (2 courtyards, 2 estates, 1 inn). The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Cadolzburg . The Bamberg cathedral provost office in Fürth was the landlord of all properties.
As part of the community edict, Oberfürberg was assigned to the Dambach tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the Dambach rural community founded in the same year . The Bavarian cadastre shows Oberfürberg in the 1810s as a village with eight properties and a few ponds to the west of it.
On January 1, 1901, Oberfürberg was incorporated into Fürth.
Since the building boom that began in the 1950s, Oberfürberg has increased its settlement area of 1.2 hectares more than a hundredfold. The residential area today covers about 1.3 km². Together with neighboring Eschenau , around 4,000 people live in the statistical city district.
