Unterfürberg (colloquially: "Féʳberi") is a district of the independent city of Fürth in Middle Franconia .

geography

The village is three kilometers west of the historic center of Fürth . The Main-Danube Canal runs past to the west and the Scherbsgraben used to arise near the site . This is now overbuilt, flows through Unterfürberg verdolt and the remaining channel finally flows northeast into the Rednitz .

history

In 1303 the place was first mentioned as "Nidern Fuerenberg" when Burgrave Konrad the Pious ceded the bailiwick over the Hofmark Fürth - which also included Unterfürberg - to the cathedral chapter in Bamberg. It can be assumed that the place name as well as the old name for the Fürth city forest "Förberich" (attested until 1732) are derived from the Old High German word "foraha" (= pine ). The “-ich” in Förberich is perhaps a collective ending that has been reduced to “berg” or reinterpreted in Fürberg; but the “i” can also be an insert vowel (cf. dialect pronunciation), so that berich is to be interpreted as “-berg” (= hill). The spellings "Nideren Furchenbech" (1314) and "Nydernfurenberg" (1414) have also survived.

In 1349 Ober- and Unterfürberg were separated from their mother church, Sankt Martin, and the church was assigned to Burgfarrnbach.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 5 properties in Unterfürberg (2 courtyards, 2 estates, 1 house). The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Cadolzburg . The Bamberg cathedral provost office in Fürth held the village and community rulership and the land rulership over all properties .

As part of the community edict, Unterfürberg was assigned to the Dambach tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the Dambach rural community founded in the same year . The Bavarian original cadastre shows the hamlet of Unterfürberg in the 1810s with nine stoves. The Nuremberg – Würzburg railway reached the site in the 1860s, but initially there was no stopping point there.

Unterfürberg has belonged to the city of Fürth since January 1st, 1901.

Although the village never had a church, it organizes its own annual festival. There is also a diving school, a playground and several restaurants. One of the oldest buildings still in existence in Unterfürberg is the house on today's property at Reichsbodenweg 50, which was built around 1928 and restored in 2013.
