history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1234 as "Festinberc". The place name means to the solid castle .

The place was the seat of the Lords of Vestenberg . Your coat of arms, the green-white-green shield with the brackish head as a crest, is still on the retaining wall in the center of the village. Your Vestenberg Castle was located above the village on the site of today's church, only a small piece of wall has survived the times. The castle often changed hands, from the Vestenberg to the Dornbergers, then to the Heideckers and from these to the Lords of Eyb , who owned it for almost 300 years until they sold the rule to the margraves in 1724 . The old chapel from 1466 from the time of the Lords of Eyb has been preserved; it is now used as the parish hall. During the Peasants' War (1524/26) the place was completely devastated. The place was also badly affected in the Thirty Years' War . In the middle of the 17th century, Protestant refugees from Upper Austria settled in Vestenberg.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 28 properties in Vestenberg (Altes Vogthaus, Schafhof with Gütlein, 1 Gut, 10 Gütlein, 1 Halbgut, 2 Halbgütlein, 2 mills, 1 forge, 1 tavern , 1 baker's property, 1 Gütlein with Badrecht, 6 Empty houses ). The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Hofkastenamt Ansbach . The Vestenberg Vogtamt held the village and community rulership and the lordship over all properties . In addition to the property, there were also church buildings (church, parish) and communal buildings (school, shepherd's house). From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach . At that time there were 29 subject families.

In 1806 Vestenberg came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict , the Vestenberg tax district was formed in 1808 , to which the Adelmannssitz , Fessenmühle , Frankendorf , Frohnhof , Külbingen , Schafhof , Thurndorf and Wustendorf belonged. The rural community Vestenberg was founded in 1811 and was congruent with the tax district. It was subordinate to the Ansbach Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and to the Ansbach Rent Office ( renamed Ansbach Tax Office in 1920 ).

With the second community edict (1818), Fessenmühle, Frankendorf and Wustendorf were re-ceded to Bruckberg . In the same year Vestenberg submitted a request to reverse this, but this was rejected. From 1862 on, Vestenberg was administered by the Ansbach District Office (renamed the Ansbach District in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court of Ansbach until 1870, 1870-1879 city and district court Ansbach , since 1880 district court Ansbach . The municipality had an area of 9.467 km².

On May 1, 1978, the municipality was dissolved in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria . Adelmannssitz, Frohnhof, Külbingen, Schafhof and Vestenberg were incorporated into Petersaurach, Thurndorf became part of the Weihenzell community .

Historical descriptions

In the Oberamtsbeschreibung of the Principality of Ansbach by Johann Georg Vetter from 1732, the place is described as follows:

“Vestenberg and Adelmannsgesäs A village inside next to the Hochfürstl. Anspachl. Schloß and Schloßhoff, Kirchen, Pfarr, and Schuhlhauß, recently bought by Herr von Eyb, nor the Schaafhoff standing on the mountain, and 24th subjects belonging to the castle, which include the 2nd mills and the Prauhauß, are freed from toe and manure . The common rulership, Kirchweyh Schutz and Vogthey belongs to the castle, but the Hochfraischl authorities belong to the local Ober- und Castenamt Anßpach. "

In the geographic statistical-topographic lexicon of Franconia (1804) the place is described as follows:

Vestenberg, parish village with 29 subjects belonging to the Oberamt Ansbach. The Lords of Eyb have a knight's seat here. It should be the ancestral home of the extinct noble family von Vestenberg. "

In the topo-geographical-statistical lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria (1832) the place is described as follows:

Vestenberg, Pfarrdorf im L [an] dg [ericht] Ansbach and Dek [anat] Ansbach, with 32 houses, 146 residents and 1 mill, 2¼ hours away from Ansbach. Already at the beginning of the Middle Ages the place was the ancestral home of the von Vestenberg family, which for a long time was one of the most extensive and wealthiest in Franconia. Around the year 1288 it belonged to the Dornberg estates. Gottfried v. Haideck, son-in-law of Wolfram v. Dornberg, received the castle Vestenberg with its affiliations when it was divided. As an after-fief, Vestenberg came to Messrs. V. Eyb. Martin v. Eyb made it the seat of a line he donated. Veit Asmus v. Eyb had the ruined castle rebuilt in 1565, provided with walls and 4 gates and a running well led there. In 1715, the Würzburg prince-bishop, Joh [ann] Philipp Franz, ceded the dominium directum of the Vestenberg manor to the margrave Wilhelm Friedrich of Brandenburg-Ansbach, and soon afterwards the manor itself with all its affiliations from the owner at the time , Freih [err] v. Eyb, whereupon it was incorporated into the former Vogtamte Flachslanden. "
