history

Like the entire Abenberg area, the place was originally under the Nuremberg burgrave and was only acquired by Eichstätt Bishop Reinboto von Meilenhart (1279–1297). In the year 1300 the place was first mentioned in the Salbuch of the Hochstift Eichstätt as "Obersteinbach". There are 1 Hube and 2 farmsteads listed for the place , which were subordinate to the bishopric.

In the Salbuch of the Spalter Canon Monastery of St. Nikolaus from 1460, 3 properties are listed for Obersteinbach, one of which was deserted. In 1517 8 properties are mentioned, in 1549 and 1619 there were again 3 properties. In 1529, 6 subject families were subordinate to the Hauptmannschaft Enderndorf of the imperial city of Nuremberg . In 1603 the place was ravaged by a major fire, but was otherwise spared from further disasters.

In the Salbuch of the city of Abenberg from 1671, 19 properties are listed for Obersteinbach. 7 properties were subordinate to the Abenberg maintenance authority in Eichstatt , which also exercised the high court and village and community authority. 4 properties were subordinate to the Imperial City of Nuremberg , 3 properties to the Schwabach Hospital , 2 to the Windsbach caste office and 3 to the Spalt chapter.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 24 properties and a community shepherd's house in Obersteinbach. The Abenberg Nursing Authority continued to exercise the high court and the village and community authority. The landlords were the Principality of Ansbach (8 properties; Kastenamt Windsbach: 4 half courtyards ; city judges office Schwabach : 1 Köblergut; Spital Schwabach: 1 Ganzhof, 1 Köblergut, 1 Gütlein), the Hochstift Eichstätt (12 properties; Kastenamt Spalt , collegiate monasteries St. Emmeram and St Nikolaus: 1 Ganzhof, 1 Halbhof, 1 Köblergut; Stadtpfarrkirche Spalt: 1 Gütlein; Kastenamt Abenberg : 2 Ganzhöfe, 1 Halbhof, 1 Köblergut, 2 Gütlein, 1 inn, 1 smithy) and the imperial city of Nuremberg (4 properties; St. Klara Monastery office : 1 Gütlein, Katharinenklosteramt : 1 Ganzhof, 1 Köblergut; Siechkobelstiftung St. Jobst: 1 Ganzhof).

In 1806 Obersteinbach came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, the Obersteinbach tax district was formed in 1808 , to which Untersteinbach ob Gmünd belonged. In 1811 the rural community Obersteinbach was formed, which was congruent with the tax district. It was subordinate to the Pleinfeld Regional Court ( renamed Roth Regional Court in 1858 ) in administration and jurisdiction and to the Spalt Rent Office (1920–1932: Finanzamt Spalt , from 1932: Finanzamt Schwabach ). From 1862 Obersteinbach was administered by the Schwabach district office (renamed the Schwabach district in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained until 1879 the District Court Roth, 1880 at the District Court Roth . The municipality had an area of 11.812 km².

In 1952 the place was officially renamed Obersteinbach ob Gmünd. This addition was already in use in 1818, probably to distinguish the nearby Obersteinbach an der Haide . On July 1, 1971, the municipality of Obersteinbach was dissolved in the course of the regional reform: Untersteinbach was incorporated into Georgensgmünd , Obersteinbach was incorporated into Abenberg.
