Reinboto von Meilenhart

Reinboto von Meilenhart († August 27, 1297, probably in Eichstätt ) was Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt from 1279 to 1297.

Life

Reinboto came from the family von Meilenhart . The main seat of the castle was named Burg Meilenhart near Daiting , today a municipality in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries . The family were Ministeriale of the Counts of Graisbach . Reinboto von Meilenhart was Eichstatter canon from 1270 . He had close ties to the Archdiocese of Mainz and was repeatedly commissioned by the Pope to negotiate. He succeeded in rounding off the territory of the bishopric primarily through further purchases, but tried to sell more distant property. The prospect of a considerable expansion of the Eichstätter area resulted from the possible extensive inheritance of the last counts of Hirschberg . The succession occurred under Reinboto's successor, Konrad II von Pfeffenhausen , and its effects also occupied the subsequent archbishops.

Reinboto was buried in the Willibald choir of Eichstätter Dom ; a grave slab has not been preserved.
