Ensemble old town Abenberg
The urban settlement ( Lage ) was built at the foot of the 11th century castle of the Abenberg Counts' dynasty, which died out in 1230, at the intersection of old streets. After the castle and Burgflecken came to the Eichstätt monastery in 1296 , the settlement was fortified under Bishop Konrad II (1297–1305) and connected to the castle wall. Upper gate and lower gate, which close off Marktstrasse and Stillaplatz in the west and east like a wall, still illustrate the walling, which otherwise only consists of remains. This street between the gates is the main axis of the city, which expands in the western part to the triangular Stillaplatz, the northern tip of which leads to the castle entrance and the southern side of which opens to the parish church and the former cemetery. Marktstrasse is characterized by exclusively two-storey bourgeois buildings; the older houses are mostly gable-facing plastered buildings, and under the plaster they are often half-timbered; the more recent buildings - since the middle of the 19th century - are mostly sandstone cuboid houses on the eaves. The street scene is also determined by the tile-covered gable roofs. At Stillaplatz, the Eichstätt rulership, which ended in 1796, manifests itself in the nursing home and box house, a Baroque complex by Gabrieli, now the town hall of the town that was elevated to the status of town in the 14th century. In addition, the gable of the rectory stands out from the rest of the renovation - two-storey plastered buildings - and at the same time communicates with the parish church of St. Jakob in the abandoned cemetery, now a green area. It has a dominant effect from the south into Stillaplatz. Small house development from 17th to 19th centuries Century delimits the former cemetery designation on the west side with one and two-story saddle roof buildings, which include the old school and community building and which touch the remains of the western city wall on the back. Located to the north on the hillside of the castle, the Burgsteig connects with its loose, picturesque buildings, stepped down to small houses. The town of Abenberg is majestically overlooked by the old ancestral castle of the Abenbergers . File number: E-5-76-111-1

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
