Front market

Panorama of the front market

The ensemble ( location ) includes the so-called Vorderen Markt, a street market that was planned to be laid out south of the former castle of the Lords of Wolfstein in 1323 after the Wolfsteiners had received market and fortification rights through royal privilege. The market square of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate should serve as a model for the system . The square is usually surrounded by two-storey gabled houses from the 17th to 19th centuries, most of which were renovated after being destroyed in the war in 1945 and are rendered as plastered buildings. The historical importance of the Allersberg brewing trade is evident in the large number of inns. At the lower gate, which closes off the narrow western side of the square, the Catholic parish church, a Baroque building from 1710, sets the dominant accent in the square. The church, which was built on the square of the Spitalkirche, faces north and, with its south gable and gable roof, is deliberately aligned with the row of northern town houses. Its tower is of great urban importance as a parish and market tower. Between the church and the gate, the only remnants of the medieval fortifications, rises the former hospital, donated in 1339, a new baroque building from 1738, in which the influence of the Eichstatt architecture of the 18th century is documented. At the eastern end of the square, the former district court, now the town hall, the baroque gable building of the Heckelhaus with its tower pavilion and the elegant Gilardihaus, a building by Gabriel de Gabrieli from 1738, form an impressive conclusion. In the palais-like character of the Gilardihaus and in the Heckelhaus, the prosperity and aspirations of two manufactory owners, the founders of Leon’s industry in Allersberg, manifest themselves . Manufacturing facilities have been preserved in the rear buildings. File number: E-5-76-113-1.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
