Location of Untersteinbach ob Gmünd in Bavaria

Untersteinbach ob Gmünd is a district of the Georgensgmünd community in the Roth district in Central Franconia .

Geographical location

The village is located in a large clearing in a wooded area (north and east: Abenberger Wald, south: Brödling, west: Espan, north-west: Birkach). To the south the Steinbach touches the place, a left tributary of the Franconian Rezat , where there are numerous fish ponds. The district road RH 9 leads to Obersteinbach ob Gmünd (2.5 km west) or past the Hämmerleinsmühle to Georgensgmünd to the state road 2224 (3.8 km south-east). A community road leads to Mäbenberg (2.4 km northeast).

history

The place arose in the Middle Ages as a clearing settlement and was first mentioned in 1407 as "Nydernstaynbach". The addition "ob Gmünd" was first found in 1818, probably to distinguish the nearby Untersteinbach an der Haide . In 1952 the place was officially renamed Untersteinbach ob Gmund.

In the 13th century the place probably consisted of 7 whole courtyards. In 1432, the entire village, except for two courtyards, was a castle count . Afterwards it was subordinate to the margravial Oberamt Schwabach , since 1600 the Oberamt Roth . In the 16-point report from 1608, 6 farms and 4 estates belonged to the Schwabach caste office and 1 estate to the Windsbach caste office . In 1732 there were 17 properties in the village according to Johann Georg Vetter's descriptions of the upper office . 6 farms, 9 goods and 1 restaurant were subordinate to the caste office in Schwabach and 1 farm to the Marienburg monastery .

For a long time the hop trade was the main source of income for the residents.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 16 properties and a community shepherd's house in Untersteinbach. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Roth , the village and community rulership was held by the Brandenburg-Ansbach caste office Schwabach . The landlords were the Kastenamt Schwabach (8 whole yards, 3 Köbler estates, 1 estate with a restaurant, 3 Gütlein) and the Eichstättischen Kastenamt Abenberg (1 Ganzhof, taxes for the Abenberg parish church ).

In the geographical statistical-topographical lexicon of Franconia (1801) the place is described as follows:

"Untersteinbach, called by Rittersbach to distinguish it from the one on the Haide, is a hamlet of 16 households in the Ansbach Oberamte Roth and is a strong half hour south of Abenberg, almost in the middle between Obersteinbach and Mebenberg. In it there is a single subject belonging to the Abenberg Care and Caste Office; all the rest are Ansbach. "

As part of the community edict, Untersteinbach was assigned to the Obersteinbach tax district formed in 1809 . It also belonged to the rural community of Obersteinbach, founded in 1811 .

During the Second World War, Untersteinbach had the "Schwalbe" control center for night hunters .

On July 1, 1971, Untersteinbach was incorporated into Georgensgmünd as part of the regional reform .
