The Evangelical Lutheran Deanery Freising is one of seven deaneries of the Munich and Upper Bavaria church district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria. It was founded in 1998. Acting dean is Christian Weigl. The deanery has its seat in the parish hall of the Ascension Day in Martin-Luther-Str. 10, 85354 Freising.
history
The Evangelical Lutheran Deanery Freising (Latin decanatus "ten": in its original meaning an area of ten parishes) was set up in 1998 under the direction of Dean Wolfgang Deutsch. It serves beyond community and district boundaries for the administration and coordination of the church work and the organization of the pastoral work of its parishes. The deanery comprises ten Evangelical Lutheran. Parishes in the districts of Freising and Erding and in the northern district of Ebersberg.
The first evangelical dean in Freising was Wolfgang Deutsch (since it was founded in 1998 to 1999). He was followed by Dean Hauer, who headed the Dean's Office for 20 years (1999 to 2019). On November 1, 2019, Dean Weigl - previously pastor of the Dankeskirche Munich-Milbertshofen - took up the post of dean of Freising.
As a strong business, service and research location in the vicinity of Munich Airport and the nearby state capital, the Freising / Erding region has long seen a strong influx of families and young people. This growth is also reflected in the numbers of Protestant parishioners in the deanery. The Evangelical Lutheran Deanery Freising currently has more than 32,000 Protestant Christians (as of April 2020).
New construction of a parish hall with dean's office and parish office
The structure of the Protestant parish hall on Martin-Luther-Strasse (right next to the Protestant Ascension Church) was so damaged after repeated heavy floods that it had to be demolished and rebuilt in 2016. After the demolition of the building, the various facilities of the parish and dean's office were temporarily housed in rented rooms in the Freising city center, among others.
The groundbreaking ceremony for a new building took place shortly after Easter 2017. This was completed in autumn 2018 and was inaugurated on December 8, 2018 by the regional bishop Susanne Breit-Keßler. In addition to the dean's office and the pastor's office, the new parish hall of Ascension Day also has appealing rooms for church music (under the direction of dean's cantor Birgit Gebhardt) and Protestant youth.
