The Evangelical Lutheran deanery in Pegnitz is one of the 16 deaneries in the Bayreuth church district . Gerhard Schoenauer is currently dean.
history
The Reformation was introduced in the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Kulmbach in 1533. In 1604 the residence was moved to Bayreuth . In 1558 a superintendent was established with the parishes of Bayreuth-Stadt, Bayreuth-Schloßkirche, Benk, Bindlach, Birk, Bronn, Busbach, Creußen, Eckersdorf, Emtmannsberg, Gesees, St. Johannis, Lindenhardt, Mistelbach, Mistelgau, Neunkirchen a. M., Neustadt a. K., Obernsees, Pegnitz, Plech, Weidenberg and Wirbenz.
The Bavarian Dean's Office in Creußen was established on December 7, 1810. It received the parishes of Bronn, Creußen, Haag, Lindenhardt, Pegnitz, Plech and Schnabelwaid from the Superintendent of Bayreuth . Betzenstein came from Nuremberg, Kirchahorn from the Kirchahorn deanery. On January 31, 1827, Birk, Neustadt a. K. and Wirbenz from the Bayreuth deanery added and Haag was handed over there. Neustadt a. K. and Wirbenz came to the Weiden dean's office in 1840 . Kirchahorn was handed over to Muggendorf on January 19, 1846 . The seat of the deanery was moved to Pegnitz in 1879. On August 17, 1894, the deanery was renamed Pegnitz .
In 1558, a superintendent of the Electoral Palatinate was established in Auerbach in the Upper Palatinate . In 1626 the superintendent and in 1628 the parish was abolished by the Counter Reformation . In 1947 a new Protestant parish was established in Auerbach.
