The Evangelical Lutheran deanery in Bamberg is one of the 16 deaneries in the Bayreuth church district . Hans-Martin Lechner is currently the dean.

The district is located around the city of Bamberg. The communities west of Bamberg are in the Steigerwald .

history

The traditionally evangelical communities belonged to the rulers of the imperial knighthood during the Reformation . The parish of Aschbach became Protestant around 1550 by the Fuchs von Bimbach . Protestant teaching was introduced in Ebersbrunn in 1566 as the then branch of Bimbach. In Großbirkach the patronage v. Crailsheim around 1533 and the Reformation in Walsdorf in 1561. Ebrach is traditionally Catholic through the Ebrach monastery . From 1851 there was an evangelical home preacher position here in the prison. Ebrach has been a subsidiary of Großbirkach since 1924. In Gleisenau , the Fuchs von Bimbach introduced the Reformation in 1548. Rudendorf became Protestant around 1550 under the barons of Rotenhan as a branch of Stettfeld, the Truchseß von Pommersfelden . After the Counter-Reformation in 1625, the remaining Evangelicals were looked after by the parish of Gleisenau. In Ebelsbach there was an inheritance of the Rotenhan (1580–1645, from 1679) with the Hochstift Würzburg and various Catholic lords. In the castle church from 1535–1555 and again from 1679 an evangelical castle preacher was active. The place Buttenheim became Protestant under the Lord von Stiebar around 1550. After the Counter Reformation in 1597, a castle parish was established. From 1803, village residents could also join the castle parish. Steppach was Protestant with Limbach during the Reformation under the rule of the Lords of Egloffstein as a Bayreuth fief. The village of Mühlhausen also became Protestant under the Egloffstein. In Lonnerstadt rulership was jointly exercised by Bamberg , Bayreuth , Nuremberg and Würzburg , with Bamberg exercising the highest jurisdiction. The Reformation was introduced in 1525 on the initiative of the Imperial City of Nuremberg. The Truchseß von Pommersfelden introduced the Reformation in Pommersfelden around 1550. The church patronage passed to the Count of Schönborn in 1710 . After the completion of Weißenstein Castle , Catholic services will take place there. The Baron von Münster introduced the Reformation in Trabelsdorf . In the Catholic parish of Wachenroth, the Marschalk von Ebneth set up an evangelical court preacher position in Weingartsgreuth around 1575 .

The St. Stephen's Church in Bamberg came into Protestant church ownership through secularization in 1803. On July 19, 1807, St. Stephan became an independent parish. The parish Bamberg-Auferstehungskirche was founded in 1955 and has been a parish from 1956. The parish of Bamberg-Erlöserkirche broke away from St. Stephan on April 15, 1935. Bamberg-St. Matthew was erected after World War II . The church was consecrated in 1964.
