Gaishorn is located in the Paltental, framed by the Ennstal Alps in the north, the Eisenerzer Alps in the east, the Seckau Alps in the south and the Rottenmanner Tauern in the west, on the old salt road from Selzthal to St. Michael over the Schober Pass . A toll road leads to the Mödlinger Hütte at the foot of the Admonter Reichenstein.

geology

The Central Alps (Rottenmanner Tauern), consisting of archaic gneisses and granites, the Eisenerz Alps (Grauwackenzone) made up of paleozoic phylites and limestone limes from the Silurian, Devonian and Carboniferous, as well as the mighty masses of Triaskalke and dolomites in the Reichenstein-Sparafeld group (northern limestone Alps) ), shape the diverse Gaishorn landscape.

climate

The geographical location results in a harsh, varied climate, frequent and violent winds, abundant rainfall, as well as long winters and short summers.

Community structure

In 2015, the municipality of Gaishorn am See was merged with the municipality of Treglwang as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform ; the new municipality continues the name "Gaishorn am See".
