They branch off from the Ennstal at Stein an der Enns across from Gröbming and form the central incision into the Niedere Tauern . The Großsölktal in particular, which leads to the Sölkpass , separates the Schladminger Tauern to the west from the Rottenmanner and Wölzer Tauern to the east. history
Sölk was first mentioned in a document around 1075 to 1080. Großsölk was the seat of a manor. The abolition of the manors took place in 1848; the local community as an autonomous corporation was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to the Reichsgau Steiermark. On November 15, 1944, an American bomber crashed near the Putzental Alm. 1945 to 1955 the area was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. In 1959 a road was built on the Ennstal side from Kaltenbach and on the Murtal side from the Kreutzerhütte to the Sölkpasshöhe .
