history
The earliest written document is from 1130–35 and is identical to today's spelling. The name goes back to Slavic trebiti (to clear).
In November 2008 it became known that taxes had not been collected in the municipality of Trieben, financial statements had been manipulated and loans had been paid out twice. Over the years, a debt level of 30 million euros arose. Statistically speaking, this is more than twice the per capita debt than in the state capital Graz. As a result, the municipal council was dissolved and a commissioner was sent to draw up a redevelopment concept. The country also granted an interest-free loan. On October 4th, 2009 a new council was elected.
coat of arms
The Trieben coat of arms shows a green three-mountain in a golden shield, covered with crossed golden mountain hammers, mallets and iron. Above it is a cycling shoe with a chain and hook.

Economy and Infrastructure
- Established businesses
- MACO : The Maco company is one of the leading manufacturers of window fittings in the world. The location in Trieben offers work for around 1200 people (as of May 2009). This makes MACO one of the largest employers in the entire Enns and Paltental. The production plant in Trieben was built according to the most modern knowledge and subsequently expanded continuously. Most of the MACO product range is manufactured here. The production program essentially comprises turn and tilt and turn fittings , English edge fasteners and handles. The plant has state-of-the-art workplaces that are ergonomically designed and environmentally friendly facilities. Similar to the Salzburg plant, the vertical range of manufacture is also very high here. An important component is our own tool and special machine construction. There is also a modern MACO logistics center in Trieben with a fully automated central warehouse with around 30,000 EURO pallet spaces. This supplies all branches and sales partners in the foreign markets. Trieben has thus developed into the logistics hub for all of Europe.
- RHI AG , formerly Veitscher Magnesitwerke , Veitsch-Radex GmbH : It is the world's leading supplier of refractory products for the steel, non-ferrous, glass and cement industries, with the steel industry being the main customer with 70%. These are mainly products made from naturally occurring magnesite as the starting mineral, which has to be converted into sinter by a burning process. Sinter production from raw magnesite from the Hohentauern mine was discontinued at the end of 1991 for economic reasons. The main production branch of the Trieben plant is the stone factory. Here, basic, refractory bricks are produced for a wide variety of customer industries. 310 employees produced 65,000 tons of stones and 30,000 tons of sinter. A landmark that has not been overlooked since the opening in 1975 is the 144 meter high central chimney ("Langer Ernst").
