The Mayer & Co Beschläge GmbH (also known under the brand name MACO ) is a manufacturer of window, door and large-area hardware and provider of innovative systems and security solutions. The family company is developing the operation of windows and doors with various research projects. Current product studies show how digitalization affects the operation and design of windows and doors.

MACO is known in the following areas: burglar resistance, window monitoring, corrosion protection, living space ventilation, automatic door locks and electronic access control. Around 35 million window sashes are fitted with MACO fittings every year.

The MACO Group employs around 2,600 people worldwide (as of July 2019). The head office is located in the city of Salzburg. The family company also operates production plants in Mauterndorf and Trieben, an assembly plant in Russia and one in Poland. In addition, there are 15 branches worldwide, which ensure an export share of 96 percent in 40 countries. The proportion of in-house production is 95%.

At the Austrian production sites in Salzburg and Trieben, the construction supplier provides training in eleven apprenticeships. The company attaches particular importance to ongoing quality tests: These are carried out at ift Rosenheim , for example, but also in the internal test center.

history

Lorenz Mayer founded the company in 1947 in Altenmarkt im Pongau; In 1952 the company moved to the city of Salzburg. In 1971 his son Ernst Mayer took over the management and the family business grew in stages. The production plant in Trieben was opened in 1994, followed by the Mauterndorf location in 2009 . An assembly plant in Kaluga (Russia) has also been in operation since 2010 .

In April 2015, MACO announced that it would have to reduce the number of employees in Austria to around 1,500 due to a drop in orders. The company now employs around 1,700 people again at its Austrian locations (as of June 2017).

Economic reports in July and August 2017 report that new, more highly automated production facilities have been built in Trieben and that 100 and 150 new employees are to be taken on here. Maco is the market leader in its segment in Austria and has an export quota of 96%.

In April 2018, the research and innovation center in the Alpenstrasse in Salzburg was opened. As part of the 16th Industry Day of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce, MACO presented what digital transformation means in the practice of a hardware manufacturer.

Production plants

MACO fittings are currently manufactured at the three Austrian production sites in Salzburg , Trieben and Mauterndorf . The semi-finished parts manufactured in Austria are assembled in the Russian plant in Kaluga and in Gliwice (Poland). The central warehouse in Trieben supplies all branches and sales partners on the foreign markets.

MACO is active in more than 40 countries worldwide. The family business operates 15 sales offices, including Great Britain (1986), Germany (1990), Poland (1998) and France (2007).
