Bruno Hubl OSB (born March 17, 1947 in Pettenbach , Upper Austria ) is a Benedictine abbot and emeritus abbot of the Admont Benedictine monastery in Styria .

Life

Franz Hubl visited the Stiftsgymnasium of Admont and entered 1965 in the Congregation of Benedictine in the monastery Admont, where he received the religious name "Bruno". He completed his theological studies at the University of Salzburg . In 1969 he made perpetual profession in the hands of Abbot Koloman Holzinger , and two years later he was ordained a priest . After years of chaplaincy in the Admont parish , his pastoral work took him to the Selzthal parish , which he looked after until 1995.

In 1978 he was appointed prior in the monastery by Abbot Benedikt Schlömicher ; he was also a novice master and member of various liturgical commissions. After the sudden resignation of Abbot Benedikt Schlömicher, Father Prior Bruno Hubl was elected 67th abbot by the monks of Admont Abbey on August 1, 1996. The blessing he received on 1 September 1996 in the cathedral in Admont by Johann Weber .

Until 2009 he was a member of the Presidium of the Austrian Benedictine Congregation and has a seat in various diocesan and supra-regional committees. During his term of office, the restoration of large parts of the monastery complex and the world-famous monastery library , but also the construction of the new museum and the House of Encounters in Graz, which opened on October 6, 2002, fall .

On March 23, 2009, Hubl announced his resignation on April 27th. J. Bruno Hubl was re-elected in the abbot election on April 27th. On April 30th, after three days of reflection, he took office again. In his acceptance speech he emphasized that he was serious about resigning. However, the trust of his confreres led him to accept the office of abbot again.

On February 25, 2010, Hubl put a press release online. In it he apologizes on behalf of his religious community for the sexual abuse of children, which a deceased father of the convent († January 25, 2010) had committed in the 1970s.

His office ended automatically when he turned 70 on March 17, 2017 and passed to his successor Gerhard Hafner .

For his services, he was awarded the Great Silver Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria on May 4, 2017 .
