Koloman Holzinger

Koloman (Ignaz) Holzinger OSB (born January 13, 1915 in Bad Hall , Upper Austria , † September 2, 1978 in Admont ) was a Benedictine and abbot of the Admont Benedictine Abbey .

Life

Koloman Holzinger was initially a Benedictine of the Kremsmünster Abbey . After his ordination in 1940 he had to serve as a soldier in the Second World War , especially in South Tyrol and the area around Rome . After the end of the war he was first a cooperator, then parish administrator, and finally in 1953 pastor of Pettenbach .

In 1956 the chapter of the Benedictine monastery Admont elected him abbot after the death of Abbot Bonifaz Zölß . Numerous renewals, both personal, spiritual and economic, in the Benedictine monastery Admont go back to him. Koloman Holzinger was friends with numerous public figures, such as Leopold Figl and Rudolf Kirchschläger .

From 1966 Holzinger was Abbot President of the Austrian Benedictine Congregation , from 1963 to 1966 Apostolic Administrator of the Benedictine Monastery of Mariazell . Abbot Koloman Holzinger suddenly died of heart failure. According to his wish, the crypt in front of the altar of grace in the pilgrimage church Frauenberg an der Enns is his final resting place. His successor as Abbot of Admont was Benedikt Schlömicher .
