Benedikt Schlömicher OSB (born January 15, 1930 in Bad Mitterndorf , Styria ; † December 14, 2005 in the Frauenberg district of Ardning , Styria) was a Benedictine and 66th abbot of the Admont Benedictine monastery in Styria.

Life

Karl Schlömicher attended the collegiate high school in Admont and entered the monastery in 1948 under Abbot Bonifaz Zölß ; he received the name of the founder of the order "Benedict". He completed his studies in Salzburg and Rome with a degree in "Mag. Phil." And in Graz (teaching degree in Latin and Greek). In 1952 he made his perpetual profession , in 1954 he was ordained a priest . His pastoral ministry took him to the Weng and Hall charitable parishes , as well as to Kleinsölk . In the monastery itself he became a professor at the grammar school and was appointed subprior and later prior by Abbot Koloman Holzinger . From 1969 to 1980 Father Benedikt was also director of the collegiate high school.

After the sudden death of Abbot Koloman Holzinger in 1978, the monks of the Abbey elected Admont P. Benedikt as their abbot. He held this office for 18 years.

He was an honorary citizen of Norcia (Italy), Wildalpen , Trieben and Hohentauern , as well as the honorary ring holder of Admont. He was also awarded the Great Gold Medal of Honor of the State of Styria .

In 1996 he resigned from the abbot office for health reasons and finally died in 2005 in the senior citizens' home of the Admont Monastery near the pilgrimage church in Frauenberg an der Enns , in whose crypt he is also buried.
