The Veitscher Magnesitwerke were an Austrian refractories company .

history

The founding as "Veitscher Magnesitwerke Actien-Gesellschaft" (VMAG) in 1899 was preceded by the discovery of the magnesite deposit by Friedrich Albert Carl Spaeter in Veitsch (Styria, Austria) in 1881. Today the plants are part of the listed holding company RHI AG .

The products of VMAG, and with it the name Veitsch, achieved world renown in the 1940s / 50s under the chairmanship of the Lauda family ( Hans Lauda ), from which the racing driver Niki Lauda also comes. 1959/60 was the founding of the research and development institute , which is still based in Leoben, by the Veitscher Magnesitwerke.

In 1993 the two Austrian companies Radex Austria AG and Veitscher Magnesitwerke Actien-Gesellschaft merged to form Veitsch-Radex AG. In 1998 the holding company RHI AG was founded , which today includes the umbrella brands Veitscher, Didier, Radex, Refel, Dolomite Franchi and Interstop.
