Friedrich Albert Carl Spaeter (born October 11, 1835 in Stadtsulza , Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , † July 9, 1909 in Koblenz ) was a German industrialist who worked successfully in Koblenz for many years. The Carl Spaeter Group in Duisburg is his work.

Life

After completing a commercial training, Spaeter came to Koblenz in 1856. There he took over the management of the then Spedition Wirth, which had specialized in inland shipping . In 1875 he was the sole owner of the company. He found his final resting place in the main cemetery in Koblenz in 1909.

Services (selection)

As the sole owner of the then Wirth forwarding company in Koblenz, Spaeter organized forwarding orders for the transport of pig iron from the Sayner ironworks after 1875 and delivered Siegerland mirrored iron to England and France. For the construction of the Suez Canal , he delivered rails from the Burbacher Hütte in Saarland . He also organized the transport of ore from the Lahn region to Holland and England. In 1870/71 he bought a mine and a rolling mill after the Franco-German War . In Lorraine in 1880 he founded the Rombacher Hüttenwerke and at about the same time the Veitscher Magnesitwerke AG in Veitsch , Upper Styria .

From 1884–1902, Spaeter was president of the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce and founded the city's advanced training schools. He was involved in the establishment of the city's gas and waterworks and in the construction of the shipyard railway in Koblenz. With an economic vision, he advocated the canalization of the Moselle .

His son Carl Spaeter (1862–1930) continued his work.
