Career

After graduating from high school in 1983, she moved from Trieben in Styria to Vienna, where she initially studied medicine at her parents' request.

After the birth of her son, she began to study visual media design at the University of Applied Arts. In 1994 she expanded her studies to include philosophy at the University of Vienna. In addition, she worked as a painter, author and video artist. In 2002 she graduated with a doctorate. Eva Jansenberger was the first PhD student in philosophy to write her dissertation in the form of a play.

Eva Jansenberger prefers representational painting, her main subject is the human face. In the course of this, she deals with depictions of people starting with Egyptian portrait painting as well as with icon depictions and artists such as Matthias Grünewald, Edvard Munch or Rudolf Hausner. For a long time she worked in the baroque St. Peter's Church in Vienna , where she had her work space directly in the church interior in a side gallery. At times she painted mainly sacred motifs to the sounds of the organ during church services.

In 2016 she opened the “Second Vienna Portrait Salon”. The name is derived from the so-called “First Vienna Portrait Salon”, which has existed in Vienna's first district since 1886, and which the artist discovered during a night walk. She portrays selected, interesting faces from Viennese originals.

Eva Jansenberger also deals with the representation of life paths, which she visualizes using motifs from nature, such as avenues that lead to a possible limit without a recognizable destination.

Her painterly work is closely associated with her philosophical and literary work.

Literary work and theater

In addition to poetry, Eva Jansenberger also writes short prose and essays. Her work also includes plays and readings with a philosophical background. The main themes are ethics and aesthetics, with philosophical content being transported using the means of theatrical representation.
