The magnesite ball stands on the main square of the town of Trieben in the Liezen district in Styria . The monument of the magnesite works is under monument protection ( list entry ).

The magnesite ball is the work of the Austrian sculptor Rudolf Hoflehner , which he designed for the 1958 World Exhibition in Brussels . In 1966 it was installed on the main square in Trieben as part of the market survey celebrations. The globe symbolizes the worldwide use of magnesite products from shoots. The metal band around the globe has the following inscription: “Surrontio Roman horse changing station on the salt road over the lower Tauern, called Trieben since the 8th century. Today a center for magnesite processing ”.
