The parish church of St. Lorenzen im Paltental is in the village of Sankt Lorenzen im Paltental in the municipality of Trieben in the Liezen district of Styria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. Lawrence of Rome - incorporated into Admont Abbey - belongs to the Admont dean's office in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

A church was documented in 1125. The mother church of all churches in the Paltental was incorporated into Admont Abbey in 1168.

In 1414 the dilapidated church was restored. Burned down during a Turkish invasion in 1480, the church was then restored. In 1677/1678 the church was redesigned in baroque style. After a fire in 1833, the church received new roofs. In 1963/1964 the church was restored inside and in 1974 outside. In 2006 the church was restored inside and in 2016 outside.

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery.

The four-bay nave, which is Romanesque in its core, has set gothic pillars with attached semicircular services, the gothic vault has painted ribs. A flat-roofed side chapel is built on both sides of the Ostjoch. The baroque three-axis west gallery stands on beveled pillars. The only hinted front arch shows the Admont coat of arms and the year 1732. The narrow, gothic, baroque choir has three yokes of different lengths with a straight end. The baroque groin vault shows simple stucco strips made of ice. In the middle of the end wall of the choir is a buttress with a Gothic pointed arch window on each side. On the west yoke of the choir, to the north, there is a sacristy annex under a barn with stab cap, underneath is the former ossuary, above the oratory, south of the choir is a flat-roofed chapel. The four-storey Gothic west tower with eaves cornices tapers upwards, the tower hall is vaulted with groin vaults. The Gothic portals of the tower and the nave are pointed arches.

In the interior of the church, the southern nave wall shows the remains of a Romanesque ornament painting, on the northern nave wall Gothic wall painting with saints from the 14th century. The choir shows decorative painting from the end of the 18th century.

The southern chapel shows a sgraffito hl. Laurentius by the painter Siegfried Schwab.

Furnishing

The baroque high altar from 1790 with gallery portals shows the high altar painting Martyr of St. Laurentius from the second quarter of the 18th century, the simultaneous statues Martin and Georg were created by Balthasar Prandtstätter .
