Balthasar Prandtstätter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Balthasar Prand (t) Stätter (* 1690; † 1756 ) was an Austrian sculptor of Baroque from the Styrian city Judenburg , who established a sculpture and Schnitzwerkstätte.

Life

Prandtstätter became a citizen of the city of Judenburg on January 1, 1717. He founded a flourishing sculpture and carving workshop in Judenburg. After his death, his colleague Johann Nisch (e) lwitzer (1722–1776 / 78) married the master's widow and continued the workshop. From 1717 to 1778 numerous churches and chapels in Upper Styria , but also in Carinthia , were equipped with altars and statues from this workshop. The larger-than-life figures of the apostles in the parish church of Judenburg (around 1750) are considered the highlight of their joint creative period. Johann Nischlwitzer's successor, Georg Panzer († 1825), became a master carpenter due to a lack of artistic commissions.

Prandtstätter was a member of the city council and died between April and October of 1756.
