Proleb

Proleb [ prɔˈle: p ] is a municipality in the judicial district or district of Leoben (federal state of Styria , Austria ) with 1565 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and an area of 24.52 km².

The community consists of the cadastral communities Kletschach, Köllach, Prentgraben and Proleb.

Proleb belongs to the LEADER region Steirische Eisenstrasse and to the 18th Nov. 2009 Regionext small region Murtal around Leoben. On the occasion of the municipal structural reform in Styria 2010–2015 , Proleb held merger talks with Niklasdorf , but remains independent as a municipality.

history

It is considered certain that the area around Proleb was sparsely populated as early as Roman times. It belonged to the Roman province of Noricum . The name "Proleb" was first mentioned in the 12th century; a "community Proleb" was first mentioned in 1891, the oldest minutes of the meeting date from this year.

At the end of the 19th century, agriculture, forestry and coal mining in the nearby Seegraben (district of Leoben) determined the life of the residents. A settlement in the Nuchtenschacht mainly housed the miners and their families, and there were also some farms in what is now Proleb. The eastern district of Köllach was mainly inhabited by charcoal burners, from which the name is derived.

After the Second World War , Proleb only had around 900 inhabitants. Due to the favorable location on the border with the city of Leoben, the place quickly developed into a popular place of residence, and the number of inhabitants has increased slightly since then.

The municipal council has 15 members.

With the municipal elections in Styria in 2000, the municipal council had the following distribution: 11 SPÖ, 3 ÖVP and 1 FPÖ.
With the municipal elections in Styria in 2005 , the municipal council had the following distribution: 10 SPÖ and 5 ÖVP.
With the municipal elections in Styria in 2010 , the municipal council had the following distribution: 9 SPÖ, 5 ÖVP and 1 FPÖ.
With the municipal elections in Styria in 2015 , the municipal council had the following distribution: 9 SPÖ, 4 ÖVP and 2 FPÖ.
With the municipal council elections in Styria 2020 , the municipal council has the following distribution: 10 SPÖ, 4 ÖVP and 1 FPÖ.
