The Austrian iron road is an adventure road in the triangle of Lower Austria , Upper Austria and Styria . As a brand, it is also understood as the tourist region that includes the Traun and Mostviertel as well as eastern Upper Styria , which corresponds to the Eisenwurzen region and its surroundings. The historical center is the Styrian Erzberg , whose economic importance shaped the surrounding region in the past, and extends from the Alpine foothills of Steyr to west of St. Pölten into the Upper Mur Valley. Today you can see the region in the general sense in the triangle of Wels , Mariazell and Leoben , with which the Eisenstraße largely connects to the Salzkammergut in the west.

In addition to historical mining , the iron industry and the wood and forestry necessary for smelting furnaces and smelting , the more than 100 stations on Eisenstraße also convey the development of the metalworking trade (from blacksmithing to mechanical engineering to measuring and musical instruments ) as well as the typical regional culture and building fabric of trades and Citizenship . Even natural attractions of the region, as well as trails for through gorges, ravines and wood pastures provides the iron road.
